Baby Steps

Writer: Perry ZubeckPerry Zubeck

So far this year, life has never looked more like a gift than ever before. Just taking one day at a time. This will be our 3rd summer here in South Carolina. We decided this area, while beautiful, is just not for us. Should have taken into account that we are in deep Bible Belt territory. Not that there's anything wrong with that, but Church hasn't been our thing since our children were young.

I've lost connection with a lot of my hommies back in Springfield for the most part. I'm cool with that. It's weird looking at everything from the outside though. I try and stay off the socials, but it's really the only way to stay in touch with family and friends. We're going to be heading home in late March or April for an extended stay due to some health crap that requires our main attention. I hope to connect with folks then. Lori may have to stay a bit longer. Things are up in the air right now with so many things, but our daily routine has been so lovely (that's a word only old people use, but it really is lovely).

We're getting the house here ready to hit the market this summer as it's just too big and there are rooms we just never use. We have changed a lot these last few years. We require the little things. Not sure where yet, but we're looking at Florida-Pensacola or Ft. Meyers area as we have family in both places. But we're also looking at Savannah, Hilton Head, and even North Carolina. We really just want a small place, good people (or no people)and a place to enjoy the local amenities. Now you would think we should maybe move back home to Illinois. But I must admit-looking outside-in, we're glad we made the move out of there. We do miss our old home on Cloverfield where we used to entertain and have an open door policy. It was fun. Playing music, helping clients, hanging with friends. We consider ourselves blessed to have had that time.

We'll let everyone know where we end up. I'll do my best to stay focused on Lori and I's dreams, even if they do change from week to week. I can really understand why some just go off the grid. I get it. The world is scary right now. In my youth, I'd turn to music or songwriting for an outlet. Hopefully I'll get back in the groove once we have a better idea on the next chapter.

Place in Pensacola we're liking. 975 sq.ft. No stairs. Lower payment.

Hope to see ya'll soon.
